Steeped in heritage and history, the residents of this state imbibe a certain cultural value which helps them be not just better human beings, but be among the best work force that you can find in India. Coupled with that the huge gallery of amenities that West Bengal provides to everyone who comes here, the state is truly a haven for everyone, whether you are a tourist or an investor. So come and take a look for yourself, and be amazed!

In greater sense, the history of West Bengal is not only the history of a small state of a large democratic, sovereign and secular country like India but it is also a remarkable part of the world history.

In ancient period, this region (present day Bangladesh and West Bengal) was called Gangaridai. Megasthenes, the Greek traveller described Gangaridai in his work INDICA. The word Gangaridai means wealth of the Ganges. In Sanskrit, it was called Ganga Rastra, means nation on the river Ganges. In the 4th century BC this state had played an important role.

According to some Greek and Latin historians, ‘Alexander the Great’ withdrew his army from India, anticipating the valiant joint counter attack of Gangaridai and Prasii i.e Prachya (Nanda) empires.

According some historians, the Ganga dynasty of Odisha and Ganga dynasty of Karnataka were the descendants of the Gangaridai people who migrated to South India from Tamluk (Midnapur) in south Bengal. The city of Ganga has not been located properly. Recent excavations of Chandraketugarh in Deganga proves that these city is a strong contender to be the city of Ganga. Most probably.Ganga was the port town of Chandraketugarh.
