  • The National University of Forensic Sciences, formerly known as 'Gujarat Forensic Science University', is dedicated to forensic and investigative science. Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the newly built Center of Excellence for Research and Analysis of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances of National University of Forensic Sciences in Ahmedabad.
  • West Indies' explosive batsman Chris Gayle created history in the third T20 match against Australia. Chris Gayle has become the first batsman to score 14,000 runs in T20 cricket. Chris Gayle now has 14,038 runs in 431 T20 matches at an average of 37.63. During this, his bat has scored 22 centuries and 87 half-centuries. At the same time, Kieron Pollard of West Indies is second in this list by scoring 10,836 runs in 545 matches.
  • Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma introduced the proposed legislation to protect cattle in the state through the Assam Cattle Protection Bill, 2021. Other states like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka have similar laws. The bill seeks to protect cattle by controlling the slaughter, consumption and illegal transportation of cattle.

  • The International Financial Services Centers Authority (IFSCA) was established to develop and regulate financial products, financial services and financial institutions in International Financial Services Centers (IFSCs). IFSCA has released a framework for setting up and operating the International Trade Finance Services Platform (ITFS). This will help exporters and importers to avail a variety of trade finance facilities for their international business transactions.

  • The United Nations said on 12 July 2021 that the worsening malnutrition situation last year was largely related to the Kovid-19 pandemic. A report jointly released by five UN agencies said that in 2020, there was an increase in the number of people affected by not getting enough food. Thus about 10 percent of the people are estimated to be malnourished. The report said that in many parts of the world, the epidemic caused a severe recession and affected access to food.
  • Digital payments and financial services company Paytm recently got approval from its shareholders to bring the country's largest initial public offering of Rs 16,600 crore. Shareholders have approved raising of Rs 12,000 crore during the initial public issue and with the sale of secondary shares, the total would be Rs 16,600 crore. Till now the record of largest IPO was in the name of Coal India. It had raised around Rs 15,500 crore in the last quarter of 2010.
  • The United Nations has declared July 12 as World Malala Day to honor the contribution of young activist Malala Yousafzai. Malala Day is celebrated around the world on the birthday of Malala Yousafzai to honor the rights of women and children.
  • UK exports apples to India for the first time in 50 years. According to the latest figures, trade between the UK and India stood at around £23 billion in 2019. Both countries want to double the trade value under the Roadmap 2030 timeline. The Free Trade Agreement with India was signed with the aim of allowing UK service companies to trade in the Indian market and enhance the UK's position as an international service centre.
  • July 12 is celebrated as World Malala Day in honor of Malala, a youth education activist from Pakistan. In 2012, Malala was shot by Taliban insurgents while she was on her way to school. The day is observed to appeal to world leaders to ensure compulsory and free education for every child in their country.
  • The Khelo India Youth Games to be held in Haryana has been postponed. The Games were to be organized in Haryana in November this year, but in view of the third wave of Covid-19, the state government has now decided to organize it in February next year. In view of Corona, the Haryana government is not trying to take any risk at the moment. The mascot of Khelo India Youth Games will be 'Dhaakad'.
  • China has officially started construction of the world's first commercial modular small reactor 'Linglong One' at its Changjiang nuclear power plant. Once completed, the production capacity of this small modular reactor could reach 1 billion kilowatt-hours. This is expected to benefit more than 5 lakh households in China. This multipurpose small modular reactor was the first reactor to be approved by the International Atomic Energy Agency in 2016.
